“I dive into the barranco by walking down the steep sides of a dead dry river. This lunar and perturbating place is the result of the irresponsible human behaviours that are provoking the climate change. Despite this, I feel like I am the one who have to adapt to the not written rules, first of all the one of the silence. At the beginning I am not confident with this place, that seems hostile and not welcoming: even if I try not to think with my antropocentric point of view I cannot stop to think that my life is in danger here. Even a flutter of wings by a butterfly and leaves’ rustling make me restless. The apex is when the sun is suddenly obscured and it starts to rain; I have to run away on the steep walls and go back to safety. But that scenario is inside me and my thoughts and it askes me to go back: none of us wants to admit the defeat, we need to try to make peace. I go back to the barranco, with my camera now. With more rationality I am forced to admit that that place is more than safe: the civilization is far 30 km away in Velez Blanco, in the middle of Andalucia. I understand that the bewilderment I felt the day before is suddenly substituted by the tranquility and the sense of protection of the mother womb. I don’t need the sky anymore and the walls dug with time are like a cradle that wounds me gently. I encounter corners, dead ends, traces of human manifacts from the past that indicates that the man tried to direct and tame the water, that now don’t flow anymore. I am under the surface: I am with flies who perceives the humidity under these cracks, I am with butterflies that don’t survive to these cold nights in the desert, I am with the roots of these trees that from above go deep looking for survival.”
